Utah Domestic Violence

According to an article by Ben Winslow for Fox 13 News
"A recent study by the Utah Department of Health found that approximately 32 percent of all homicides in the state were domestic violence-related. On average, there is a domestic violence-related murder every 33 days, and approximately three domestic violence-related suicides every month."

Utah domestic violence is never a private matter.

The Utah Domestic Violence Coalition works with local domestic violence programs and providers of direct services to encourage appropriate responses to domestic violence within the State.

Why Utah domestic violence services are needed:

  • On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.
  • Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crime.
  • Almost half of female (46.7%) and male (44.9%) victims of rape in the United States were raped by an acquaintance.
  • 72% of all murder-suicides involve an intimate partner; 94% of the victims of these murder suicides are female.
  • 1 in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to this violence.
  • Between 21-60% of victims of intimate partner violence lose their jobs due to reasons stemming from the abuse.

  • Domestic violence articles to help you better understand the problem in Utah:

There is no doubt that a child who witnesses violence between parents or caretakers is at a very high risk of transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next.

Recognizing the warning signs of an abusive relationship is one thing, but having the courage to do something about it is yet another. Women who feel they are in an abusive relationship should reach out to their friends and family.

Domestic violence continues to be the most under reported crime in the United States and its tragic affects are felt in every state and in every community. In most states, we have stronger laws protecting animals than we do in protecting women and children in violent relationships.

I had heard about domestic violence, but all I knew was that it existed and not very much of anything else. As I made that drive, I kept asking myself, "OK, now that you have made this decision to go get her, what do you do next?"

As each one of us walks life's road, we must understand that each spiritual journey will be different. Our spiritual life can be as unique as our fingerprints. It is a mistake to judge another person's path against your own. In order for us to become what we want to be, we must learn to accept ourselves at the very place in life where we are right now.
